Software Developers and the Epsilon Award 2008

There are people who appreciate your hard work. Simply because they know how high Mt. Frustration is you climb several times a year. The Epsilon Award of the European Software Conference is for healing some of it and the growing community around the ESWC helps. Maybe you give it a try. It is free.

XY was here

Know that experience? You visit some famous building or monument and you get really angry because someone has left his name or initials, maybe even by using a knife? Why do we actually become angry? Because this guy/girl wants to be part of the eternity of this unique art without having down or produced anything similar? Or because we are jealous? Strolling the rural areas where I grew up close to Cologne I saw an old tree that had always been close to a fence with barbed wire. On a recent visit I noticed that it now has actually incorporated the wire, the fence has become part of the tree...going beyond the borders by simply embracing them. Maybe two ways to get noticed?

About (self-appointed ? ) gatekeepers

Due to a storm and strong winds rain has actually brought down a lot of corn here. And the farmers argued that wild pigeons had to be shot in order to save the corn to be spoiled or eaten. So they called for help from the hunters and they started shooting every pidgeon they could get, without even bothering to inform the inhabitants of the why, where and how they were doing it. It was urgent, they say. That reminds of me some "gatekeepers" in the software industry...can you imagine who I am talking about?
