Dörfler und andere Weltbürger

Ein neues Jahr hat wieder begonnen. Dazu möchte ich allen Weblog-Lesern alles Gute wünschen. So ein Neuanfang hat etwas reizvolles. Endlich mal etwas fertigstellen, was bisher noch nicht gelang, vielleicht eine Freundschaft begründen, die sich bisher nur andeutete, oder an sich herumfeilen, um eine Besserung einer Charakterschwäche zu ermöglichen?

Klar, das sind Standardwünsche und -formulierungen, die Hoffnung ausdrücken. Sie zeigen aber auch die Parallelität des Handelns auf. Der "Dörfler" und der "Weltbürger" bewegen sich auf Bahnen, die nebeneinander verlaufen. In der Tat ist das die wirkliche Hoffnung: Dass mehr Menschen sich ihres kosmopolitischen Dorfcharakters oder umgekehrt bewußt werden. Keiner (auch keine große Firma) sollte fortlaufen können vor seinen Fehlern. Einigen Zeitgenossen, die unsere (gesellschaftliche) Ermüdung für naturgegeben halten, sollten sich ins Buch schreiben lassen, dass das Phänomen des organisierten Vergessens nachläßt. Ein neues Jahr kann so, wenn der einzelne kosmopolitische Dörfler sich mehr erinnert (wir alle !) wirkliche Veränderungen in der Zukunft mit sich bringen, oder?

Global responsibilies

When you borrow the lawn mower from your neighbour because yours is broken he can be sure that he will get it back. If it is broken you will get it repaired, right? And if you buy it from him, he will care to give it to you in perfect shape, right? The SMEs of our software industry think and work the same way. We produce products that inherit and incorporate pride and a sense of responsibility towards the customer, who on his side will not demand the impossible adaption and alteration of the application. If that works, our world is functioning and people get along.

But when whole industries and individual persons play with the other individuals`trust - then there is a lack of global responsibility. Who blames them for that, who eventually punishes them? Hopefully the institutions and mechanisms that should do it. If your software does not hold what it promises then the individual will be "punished" on a global scale rather quickly. And there are no government exits for him. Probably the difference between real global players and those that pretend?

Cosmopolia and Software

In reference to what I just said about elections: Just think of all the offshore software developers, they are living in India, Russia or South America but form a virtual team, their combined opus is finally sold while they all stay in their countries, does that constitute some pre-evolutionary form of cosmopolitan participation as a prelimninary for future development or is this simply a different form of exporting and importing intellectual property and goods? Just thought of the corinthean vases found up north in Celtic graves, how many of the celts actually dreamt of learning Greek because of their exclusive use of Corinthean goods? How many of the offshore developers actually want to join our world materially speaking? When Germany invited IT-specialists with special green cards, hardly anyone wanted to come...but after all it is a cosmopolitan network when developing together, what do you think?

The provinces of Cosmopolia

Strange title? Well, the world is much smaller than we want to know. Elections are a good example. Voting from abroad makes things interesting. And bang, all of the sudden I vote in Michigan and decide about stem cells and the medical use of marijuana, decide who is running for what court or state university...I believe that the search engines were really happy about all my requests. But from my pedestrian walk perspective here in Hermuelheim to the local issues of Kalamazoo there is a definite link. After all to be a citizen of the world means to be the universal citizen everywhere - at least when it comes to our Western world - but probably somehow in any country with comparable economical and political conditions...?

Die Dynamik der Freiheit

Es klingt pathetisch. Aber es gibt eine positive Erfahrung, die ich immer wieder - auch in der freien und verantwortlichen Wirtschaft mache: Individualität setzt sich im Spannungsverhältnis zwischen ökonomischen (nutzungsorientierten) Zwängen und dem freien beharrlichen Wollen durch. Gerade in der Software-Entwicklung trifft dies zu. Ärgerlich und frustrierend sind hier aber die Ideen-Piraten und fantasielosen Abkupferer, die allerdings meistens mit einem "Schwergewicht" an Einbildung und Angeberei herumlaufen, das für kreative Menschen kaum faßbar ist.

Vergessen und Erinnern

Jedes Kind, das einmal auf sein Knie gefallen ist, weiß, wie schmerzhaft das sein kann. Doch erinnert es sich an den Grund seines Schmerzes oder an den Schmerz an sich? Heutzutage scheinen viele Menschen beides zu vergessen: die schlechte Erfahrung und den damit verbundenen Fehler und die Sanktion (die Gefahr), die damit verbunden war.

BSE, Vogelgrippe, Klimaerwärmung, Skandale bei Prominenten...alles wird verdrängt und rasch vergessen. Die meisten essen wieder Rindfleisch, das Auto wird weiterhin zum Briefmarkenkaufen eingesetzt (wenn man natürlich noch das Benzin bezahlen kann) und viele finden es in Frankreich wahrscheinlich schon wieder normal, dass durch die regelmäßigen Störfälle (in Kernkraftwerken, die auch für die Nachbarländer Strom produzieren) ihr Wasser streckenweise das 1000fache des normalen Urangehalts enthält. Ist das wirklich normal?

Doch den Dauermahner zu spielen, macht (fast) niemandem Spaß. Also Vergessen als Überlebenstaktik? Und welche Aufgabe hat dann das Erinnern?
